Get ready for Zoom
Many parents have been forced to transform their homes into virtual offices and schools. The newest phenomenon in many households is video conferencing. Zoom has gone from being a little-known virtual meeting platform for businesses to an essential instrument in our day-to-day life.
While we’ve all grown accustomed to using platforms like Zoom, there are still moments that remind us that we will probably never fully adapt to this way of socializing and teaching our children.
It’s been hard adapting to people seeing me in my natural habitat. Most of my sleepwear consists of bottoms with obnoxious patterns and shirts that appear to have barely survived in the wilderness for a decade. When my kids have their Zoom meets first thing in the morning with their teachers I become a ninja, fiercely trying to stay out of camera view.
Although we are hiding behind our computers, we are vulnerable to a different kind of scrutiny. A fellow Mommy shared that she accidentally answered a call with her daughter's teacher with no pants on. Sadly, this is a relatable story. If you started out wearing judgment pants, you’re likely wearing only underpants now.
Don't forget to mute your microphone!
We also have the not-so-rare instance of forgetting to mute our microphones while yelling at our kids or partners. We’ve all heard it and we’ve certainly all done it! Could someone please develop a feature that automatically mutes an angry tone and places a black mark or smiley face on unintentional streaking---or intentional in the case of my youngest daughter??
It’s amazing how adaptable our children can be in the face of all of this and at least some hilarious anecdotes have been born from these epic fails and will continue on in Zoom folklore for generations to come. We've learned to take ourselves less seriously and are becoming more comfortable with people seeing us in our natural habitat!
I leave you with this image taken during our last Whimsical Exposures Zoom meeting.
