Shop 'Til You Drop
The Good Ole Days
Remember when you could leisurely run errands? In the good old days, I strolled through Home Goods searching for the perfect lemonade pitcher and glasses set. I walked down countless aisles admiring all of the art. I expertly squeezed my cart through packed aisles, reaching over fellow customers for the perfect frame for my latest family photo.
Fast forward to now. No school. No camp. Kids in constant tow. Masks. Social distancing. Home Goods closed!!! The only in-person shopping experience available is the grocery store, and that has become a not-so-relaxing experience. Has anyone hauled three masked children to the store while trying to follow direction arrows and maintain a 6 foot distance, only to find they are out of dinosaur chicken nuggets? This is a recipe for a temper tantrum.
Since the quarantine, I can count on one hand how many times I’ve been to the grocery store. My early experiences have kept me away, so anything we need is on my husband’s to do list. If there are no more dinosaur chicken nuggets or only yogurt with chunks of fruit, he has to be the bad guy. Do I enjoy this? A little.
Online shopping doesn’t have the same satisfaction as shopping childless, unmasked, and uninhibited had, so for now, I will just long for those days and patiently (kind of) wait for a time when I can lose myself in the aisles of my favorite home decor stores.
I better start saving now, because I have a lot of bottled up shopping energy!
